Client Testimonials:
"We loved the flowers! They were just what we wanted and went perfectly with our theme. Plus, they smelled WONDERFUL. You did a great job working with our limited budget; the designers found flowers that we could afford in the shape that I wanted. Everything was ready to go when my mom picked them up and the flowers lasted all day (plus some!). My great-grandfather even took one of the bridesmaid's bouquets home to my great-grandmother, since she couldn't attend our wedding. "

"Strelitzia is my first pick of Davis florists primarily because I like that they keep their flowers out so customers can create their own bouquets. Staff people are always very friendly and they are great about arranging bouquets of customer-selected flowers. Even if you're just picking up a couple stems, staff will add a little greenery for you and wrap it nicely. "

"Their amazing flower arrangements light up the window in our hair salon, Nina's Studio. They add so much color and style to our shop that compliments our own business attitudes. The extremely friendly staff personally bring over new arrangements and advise us on how to keep them alive ;) "

Janice Labadie:
When you own a company there are so many facets of interest with demands unique to each position, if you’re lucky you find your nitche. My interest, albeit passion, is to get out and about. I procure and transport products for Strelitzia Flower Company with my weekly “Buy run” to northern California coast flower growers.
What could be more enjoyable than to leave Davis Monday mornings, travel through San Francisco, down Hwy 1 along the Pacific Ocean, stopping to pick up products at growing operations from Half Moon Bay to Santa Cruz? I end up in Aptos where I check into my second home, The Best Western Hotel, savor a delicious blackened salmon Caesar salad, enjoy my complimentary cocktail and hit the rack about 9 pm.
At 7 am Tuesday morning I’m on the road again driving and stopping continuously farm to farm all the way south to Salinas. At the end of the day I will have purchased and packed my maxi van to the gills with fresh products from over 18 farms, each specializing in incredible varieties of floral products. I arrive back in Davis around 3pm, off load the goods then drive my tired body home.
With a horticultural background, I met my husband Dean while working at his growing operation off road 95 in Davis back in the early 80’s. I feel as if I have been on a runaway horse ever since! Helping to raise both his girls, Thea and Kristin, was a joy and a challenge. Now they are 37 and 34 respectively and well, it was a ride I would not have passed up! My role as Gramacita to their children, Caden, Emily and Ella has brought me full circle.
If I had to expound on things specific to me I’d have to say I am thankful for my upbringing in what was once a one horse town back in 1954, Elk Grove. Some of my schoolmates had to milk cows before they came to school. I was fortunate to spend kindergarten through High School with the same kids, many of Japanese ancestry as the Florin-Elk Grove area was once farmed by them before WWII took them to internment camps. My teachers were progressive and encouraging. My interests were art, politics and horticulture. While my mother was passing away from breast cancer I made my way through the horticultural program at American River College. My family has a long history with farming and for that I am proud.
This brings me to the subject of my hearts-home, Davis. The diversity of people, perspectives and lifestyles feeds me. Without a wide palette of friends and experiences I would be unsettled. Strelitzia Flower Company has been around since 1971 in Yolo County and well, whenever I need to immerse myself in my work clicking off all those miles driving, I need only reflect of my husband, my kids, grandkids, my stellar staff and memories of my childhood to entertain myself. If I could choose, I would not have lived my life any other way ~ no regrets!
